Domain Configuration for IMAP Email Accounts

Domain Configuration for IMAP Email Accounts

Make sure the DNS for the website is already configured (i.e. there’s an A record for domain.com pointing to e.g. ssd163.simpleservers.co.uk)

The following DNS MX record needs to be configured with whoever manages the DNS for this domain:

Type: MX

Name: @

Value: @

Priority: 0

TTL: Doesn’t really matter, 3600 is fine

You can also add CNAME records for mail, smtp, imap: This isn’t necessary, but will enable some mail clients to autoconfigure the account.

Type: CNAME

Name: mail, smtp, imap (one record for each)

Value: @

TTL: Doesn’t really matter, 3600 is fine

Next, in cPanel for the domain in question, go to ‘Email Routing’, select the correct domain and set it to ‘Local Mail Exchanger’. This tells the server to handle mail for that domain and for some of our servers (MT TODO: Which?) starts handling email autoconfiguration requests.

You’re then ready to add the actual accounts.
