Uploading Products Magento

Adding products individually

1. Navigate to the back end of your Magento website.
2. Go to Catalogue, Manage Products
3. Click Add Product
4. If it belongs to an attribute set which is already configured, select that.
5. Select the product type accordingly:

• Simple product: physical item with a single SKU. Can be used in association with grouped, bundle and configurable products
• Grouped: Presents multiple, standalone products as a group. This is useful for offering variations of a single product. It could also be useful for grouping for promotion, as the products can be purchased separately or as a group.
• Configurable: Appears to b e a single product with lists of options for each variation. Each option represents a separate simple product. For example, one style of t-shirt that comes in multiple size and colour options. A red, medium top will have a different SKU from a red, large top.
• Virtual: They are not physical and are typically used for services, warranties and subscriptions. Can be used in association with grouped and bundle products
• Bundle: Lets customers build their own from a range of options, such as choosing components for a custom built computer. Each item in the bundle is a separate product.
• Downloadable: Digitally downloadable product that consists of one or more files that are downloaded.

6. Click Continue
7. In the General tab, enter a Name for your product, a description, a short description. You also need to enter info into the fields marked with a *. If it doesn’t really apply to your product, just enter 0 value.
8. In the prices, you can add a general price, a group price (this is a price specifically for a select group of customers, e.g. those who have signed up), a special price (sale, reduced), and set dates. You should also set the VAT class.
9. Meta information is important as this is what search engines will crawl and display on searches for the product. Fill out a title, keywords and Meta description.
10. In images, you can upload images to show alongside your product.
11. Recurring Profile allows you to have the item as a staple in all categories.
12. Design helps you customise the appearance of your product. This is not necessary, but can look quite nice.
13. Gift options – here you can allow a gift message if you wish.
14. Inventory allows you to manage the stock
15. Categories allows you to add the product to a single, or multiple categories
16. Related products lets you select similar products to also show on the page
17. Once all desired fields are filled out, click save to save and exit.

IMPORT/BULK UPLOAD PRODUCTS

1. Navigate to the back end of your Magento website
2. Go to System, Import/Export, Import
3. In entity type, select Products
4. In import behaviour, select append complex data
5. In Select File to Import, click choose file, and upload your CSV file.
6. Click Check Data
7. It will either come back with completed, or an error.

For this, you should already have your products set out in a CSV file. If you have not already got this, create an Excel spreadsheet, and list your products and the product details in columns and rows. Ensure you use correct headers. Save As a CSV file.
