Creating a Small / Package Website Procedures

QUOTES

Small / package / templated websites should be priced according to our product sheets / website quote calculator; following a basis of the Pro “X” Package.

Our prices are based on WordPress creation times, please advise your account manager if a different platform will be used.

The page number can usually be found through the site’s /sitemap.xml file, however this is not always accurate (and sometimes does not exist!), and should be double checked if possible.

The product number can usually also be found through the site’s /sitemap.xml, again this might not exist or be accurate, so can sometimes be checked by going to their shop page and seeing if there’s a total product count. Products are quoted in brackets of 100 products, so going to the nearest 100 is usually sufficient if a precise number can’t be determined.

If a sitemap does not exist, we can estimate the number of pages based on menus and buttons on the site. If this number appears too large to manually count them all, try and gauge an estimated number by looking at the menus, footer and homepage navigation.

PAGES MUST NOT BE EXCESSIVELY LONG TO FIT INTO A SMALLER PLAN – as a general rule, a maximum of 5 visible sections per page, no bigger than the height of a typical monitor (1080px). Typically, this includes a banner / slider or introduction, an about section, a services section, and a contact section.

Additions are subject to client spec / if they’d be a good fit to offer as an option.

Hosting is approximate, as it is difficult to guess the end disk quota of a brand new site. Most pro 5 / 10 websites would be small, 15 / 20 medium if they do not have eCommerce, large galleries or lots of attachments. eCommerce websites must be a minimum of MEDIUM package.

SSL Certificate with GDPR package should be selected by default. Standard costs are: £120+VAT for Pro1 or Pro 5, £150+VAT for Pro 10, 15, 20, and £180+VAT for eCommerce (regardless of page count).

All pricing must be signed off by an account manager, and could be marked up / discounted so do not use these figures as final – all pricing is confidential.

WEBSITE BUILDS

Once the site has been booked in, standard procedure for package quoted sites are:

FIND A TEMPLATE

Click here to go to our Elementor template library.

As a general rule, most package sites will be built using Elementor. We have a subscription for Elementor Pro, so all templates are available to us.

Sites with custom functionality or very specific requirements may use themes instead; these can be found here or paid versions, if required, here.

Pick three templates you believe would be suitable, and send them to the account manager to decide which one would be best to use.

CREATING THE WEBSITE

Once the template has been decided on, download it from our Envato Elements library (or elsewhere if required).

Click here for step by step dev environment creation instructions.

If importing an Elementor template from Envato Elements, you should install the following:

Once you have imported your plugins, and the template kit, you should import the following first:

  • Header
  • Footer
  • Homepage

Once these have been imported, you then have a visual to work with. It’s recommended to change the logo initially, and add any menu items you’ll need as these are not often imported.

Once done, on an editing page, press the three lines in the top left corner to go to Site Settings, and set Global Colours and Global Typography – in here, you can preset colours and fonts to match their branding, and this will enforce it across the website as you go, ensuring consistency. You should also test out the responsive compatibility as you go, as this will eliminate the need to spend lots of time on it at the end.

You can find guides on elementor here.

Only the home page should be proofed initially. The rest of the pages will follow after the home page has been signed off. Ensure that rounds of proofing are kept at a minimum.

Once the homepage has been signed off, the rest of the pages can be created following suit. Ensure to keep consistency throughout the site with fonts, colours, spacing and other general design elements.

Once the rest of the website has been signed off and is ready to go live, follow these instructions here: https://helphub.silvertoad.co.uk/team/setting-a-wordpress-site-live/

It is imperative that a website checklist is completed, and double checked by someone else in the studio both just before and just after a site has gone live.

If the customer is having SEO, this setup will be after the site has gone live, though some items can preparatively be inserted, please refer to the SEO checklist.

Key things to note:

  • When creating a dev site, do not forget to check the box to Discourage Search Engines From Indexing. If this has been missed, it can be found under Settings > Reading.
  • When a site goes live, do not forget to uncheck the box to Discourage Search Engines From Indexing!
  • If the customer is having SEO, ensure you have the accompanying SEO job bag.
  • Do not forget to update the relevant Hosting / Domains / SSL / SEO spreadsheets
  • If we are not hosting a site, don’t forget to add it to the Non-Hosted spreadsheet
